After a few months of using all cast iron pans for cooking, we decided to stop burning our hands once and for all. So, we've been refining our version of an all-natural leather pan handle. We leave ours on always, only removing if we put it in the oven. We even keep them on while we rinse the pan! Water only darkens the leather, making it better with time and use. With a little caution, these should last for years!
